A description of services at Honen Dalim
About Us
Honen Dalim is a small non-affiliated Jewish congregation with a diversity of cultural origins and preferences in synagogue observance. Our services are conducted in a combination of Hebrew, English and Portuguese in the historic Maputo Synagogue (1926). We base our services on the Koren Siddur (English) and the Ner Shabbat Siddur (Portuguese), but on Friday evening we use our own community siddur which contains Hebrew, English, Portuguese and transliteration of Hebrew so that all can participate from the same book. Our overriding goal is Jewish community unity, and we therefore make adaptations to our practices for the benefit of greater inclusion as circumstances commend. Most of the year we are led by energetic lay leaders, but we welcome visiting Rabbis from time to time.
We are members of the Commonwealth Jewish Council, the African Jewish Congress and the Council of Religions of Mozambique (COREM).
Our goal is to provide a dynamic, family-friendly, and spiritually rich Jewish environment for members and visitors to Maputo. We warmly welcome all Jews regardless affiliation, commitment or background. We invite you to contact us if you have more specific questions on participating in our services or joining our community.
